We are delighted to be partnering with Hampstead Theatre to launch a brand-new project exploring the role theatre can play in fostering positive intergenerational relationships. Together we will run a creative writing programme for young and older people culminating in a sharing at Wac Arts.
We are looking for 16 – 24-year-olds with an interest in creative writing to take part in a series of weekly sessions at Wac Arts. Under the guidance of writer and facilitator Carmen Nasr the group will explore themes of heritage, identity and culture to create a series of pieces that will be performed by professional actors as part of Wac arts 25th Anniversary Celebrations at the Old Town Hall.
Carmen is a British-Lebanese writer, who grew up in Beirut and has been London-based for the last ten years.
Her latest play THE CLIMBERS premiered at Theatre by the Lake, Keswick, in June 2022. Her play THE MALADIES, made with the Almeida Theatre young company, premiered at The Yard Theatre in London in 2022.
In 2017 Carmen was a winner of the Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme, on which she was attached to the Finborough Theatre, where her play DUBAILAND previously premiered. In 2018 she was commissioned by Kiln Theatre to write a play for their young company, LET KILBURN SHAKE.
She was previously a member of the Orange Tree Writers Collective and the Royal Court’s Playwriting Group. In 2015 her play THE HOUSE OF MY FATHER was long-listed for the Bruntwood Prize.
Carmen is currently under commission to the Kiln Theatre/Sky Productions, Almeida Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, and is adapting Booker Prize shortlisted novel BURNT SUGAR by Avni Doshi, for the Lot Productions.
Carmen teaches playwriting at Manchester University & Royal Holloway University of London.
