Working in fresh and imaginative ways, Wac Arts supports gifted young people facing exceptional challenges and hardship to develop their aspirations and see opportunities ahead. The Wac Arts AIR (artist in residence) programme aims to give emerging artists, local artists and artists with an interest in the work we do with young people, the chance to exhibit their work in an inspiring multi purpose space. If relevant the artist will also have the chance to engage with our programmes and the existing provisions of Performing Arts and Media classes housed within the heritage building in North London.
Supporting our Alumni
Wac Arts, in its 35 years of providing inclusive and affordable arts training to young people from 33 boroughs of London, has always provided a support network to students once they have left. Whether providing rehearsal space, loaning equipment, offering training and work opportunities or networking events to its alumni, Wac Arts strives to help in any way it can. Realising we have already been housing artists in residence, we recognised the potential for emerging artists, alumni, students and the community.
There will be at least four artists in residence a year housed at Wac Arts for periods of a month up to a year! This will be in the form of art exhibitions and also performance artists/companies using our facilities and interacting with various programs. Wac Arts can offer long-term residency period to performance artists or companies looking for a new environment for research and development of their work. Artist work can be viewed by the public on Thursday evenings and a private view or opening night can be arranged for the artist. All we ask is a contribution from work sold or in kind support which may include workshops with our young people or volunteering at Wac Arts.
