Duration: Permanent (3 month probationary period)
Hours: 35 hours per week (p/t & flexible working considered depending on experience)

Wac Arts is a charity which provides affordable and inclusive weekend, evening, and holiday arts programnmes and a vibrant disability and inclusion programme as well as a full time professional training course. 800 young people aged 5-26 come through our doors each year and we prioritise access to those who need it most. As part of what we do, we work with and support young people to build skills for employment and personal development in and through digital media, music, theatre and dance.

Wac Arts is on an exceptional journey and this is an opportunity to join a small, dynamic team with the chance to lead on Trusts and Foundations and develop the great pipeline which has been started. The charity is in an exciting turnaround under the leadership of Karen Napier. Respected in the industry for our work with diverse artists and young people, we run a mixed economy model to achieve our core objectives. We have a committed Board and a three year business plan which sees a capital project in the pipeline.

The Role:

This role is ideal for someone who has a great sense of humour, is a team player and who gets things done. They will support the Director of Philanthropy in meeting capital and revenue fundraising income targets as we begin a transformational Comprehensive Campaign at Wac Arts. The emphasis of the role is on Trusts and Foundations. You will focus on securing new income for Wac Arts (80% of role) and managing a small portfolio of funders accounts working to deliver long term, high-value strategic partnerships (20%).

This is a busy and demanding role and we are looking for a candidate with previous experience of securing five and six figure gifts, cultivating prospects and stewarding Trust and Foundation relationships. You will have good organisational ability, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an understanding of, and enjoyment for, Trusts and Foundations work. Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Director of Philanthropy to develop the overall Trusts and Foundations strategy for Wac Arts, leading on the T&F implementation plan
  • Meet key objectives and targets within the team
  • Write and develop applications and proposals, communicating Wac Arts strategic ambitions, plans and commitment to empowering young people to change their world
  • Support a programme of expansion by indentifying, cultivating and engaging new and lapsed funders for Wac Arts strategic priorities
  • Understand our Trust and Foundations supporters, their alignment with our programmes and develop ways to cultivate and build strong relationships between the funders and Wac Arts. Deliver excellent stewardship and account management
  • Represent Philanthropy and the Trusts and Foundations activity across Wac Arts in a professional manner and liaise closely with multiple internal departments to ensure successful management of new and existing relationships
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify and nurture relationships important to Wac Arts
  • Liaise with Wac Arts departments to gather information in support of all applications and reports and take responsibility for administration of trusts and foundations portfolio, including thank you letters and reporting timetables
  • Follow proper procedures and protocols with systems and general administrative actions, including utilisation of Salesforce
  • Maintain a scrupulous record of fundraising activities on electronic databases and within Wac Arts other record-keeping systems
  • Ensure that all accreditation for trusts and foundations donors in programmes, on the website, around the building and elsewhere are correct and up to date
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and ensuring compliance with GDPR
  • Undertake any other tasks required to fulfil the role

What you bring to the team:

You will definitely have…

  • Experience in growing new business within the Trusts and Foundations sector
  • Proven experience in developing and meeting capital income targets
  • Demonstrable experience in Trust fundraising, including Heritage Lottery Fund
  • A successful track record in account management
  • Experience in securing grants of six figures
  • Able to demonstrate relationships have been developed to deliver maximum benefit
  • Experience of writing successful applications and producing reports with demonstrable ability to translate complex information into compelling narrative form
  • Experience of prioritising and balancing a busy workload, producing g quality work to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and listening skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholder
  • Experience of working with senior staff and volunteers to identify and cultivate prospects
  • An ability to work on tasks independently, as well as working effectively within a team
  • The ability to think creatively and work proactively, demonstrating problem-solving skills
  • Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Work, Excel and PowerPoint
  • A flexible approach to work as some evening and weekend work may be required for special events

Experience of working in arts/cultural sector

Experience working with fundraising and donor management databases or software
