As we announced earlier this week, Wac Arts have been selected by Thornton Budgen’s as their Charity of the Year! To celebrate, we held a launch event on Wednesday evening. Helping us celebrate in style, our Over-18s group, Urban Motivation, performed a show entitled ‘2069’.
The performance, entirely devised by the group themselves, retold the story of the Pied Piper through drama, song and dance. The Belsizers, upset with the anti-social behaviour of the Hipsters, called in the Tricksters to lead them away and change their ways. The audience were also swept up by the Tricksters, leading us on a dance from the outside Budgens into our building. After a big, celebratory dance number (with compulsory audience participation) we retired for refreshments and to continue the party.
Massive ‘Congratulations’ to the Urban Motivation students and staff for putting on an amazing evening of entertainment that got everyone moving! We cannot wait to continue the celebration throughout the year – check back soon for details in the lead up to our sponsored events, including our January Jogs, starting January 13th in preparation for the London Landmarks Half Marathon. We will also be holding a Valentine’s Song Night, Busk-a-thons, pop up performances and more throughout the year.
Don’t forget, you can now make a donation to Wac Arts at the tills of Budgens. Just scan the heart by the checkout to make a donation of £2.50, or swipe multiple times to donate more! While you’re there, have a look for the chalkboards around the store. They have facts about the building which will change each season so that all of our community can find out more about our home. There are currently no answers to the questions on the boards. We will be running a competition next week to see who can guess the answers. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to find out more.
