Natasha Mayo on our Aerials projectThis week we are catching up with our Senior Wac Arts student and Aerial skill enthusiast Natasha Mayo. Natasha is running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to support the essential and vibrant programmes for young people in the Old Town Hall. Lets see what Natasha has to say…

How did you get involved with Wac Arts?
I worked as a receptionist for Wac Arts, and now take part in the Ariels class they offer on a Sunday at Senior Wac Arts.

What is it about Wac Arts’ mission that makes you inspired to run a Half Marathon?
The high quality of teaching and it’s accessibility.

What’s your favourite running tune?
I’m more of a podcast gal!

Have you run before? Any half marathons or long distances?
Nope! Furthest I have ever run was a 10K

What is your training schedule?
Very inconsistent. I am a bartender and work irregular hours. The most intense work out I do, when I can get to it, is Track Mafia. @trackmafia

The event is described as “not your average half marathon! From cultural landmarks and heritage to the city’s quirky and hidden secrets, runners will get to explore the capital on a route like no other!” What excites you about taking part in the London Landmarks half Marathon?
Finishing it- hopefully- and any part that is downhill J

What will be the first thing you will want to do when you finish the race!?
I would love to come in at under two hours, but have no clue if that is realistic at this stage… fingers crossed!

How much are you hoping to raise?
The full amount

What time are you hoping to complete the race in?
Drink beer, eat, sleep…. repeat

About the London Landmarks Half Marathon event:

The London Landmarks Half Marathon is a brand new, closed road, central London run. It is the only half marathon to go through both the City of London and City of Westminster and the first event will take place on the 25 March 2018.
The event is not your average half marathon! From cultural landmarks and heritage to the city’s quirky and hidden secrets, runners will get to explore the capital on a route like no other!

10,000 runners will start on Pall Mall, finish by Downing Street and have fabulous views of London’s most iconic landmarks including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the Gherkin, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye.

The event will also deliver a pan-London community engagement programme and involve London wide schools, boroughs, community groups, cultural organisations, sports clubs and businesses in developing the event and on the day.

The event is owned by baby charity, Tommy’s who came up with the idea in 2014. Tommy’s are delighted to be launching this exciting new event with the support of Westminster City Council and the City of London Corporation.

Lia Bowman, Race Director at the London Landmarks Half Marathon commented,
“We are so excited to bring this new event to our capital and have no doubt it will be one of the best mass participation experiences in the UK. Runners can expect to be surprised with much fun along the route! We want to make sure we keep them well entertained throughout their 13.1 mile challenge and give them lots to talk about after!’

The Wac Arts staff and students will all be at the event on the 25th March to cheer on the runners. Come and join us!
