There’s never a dull moment here at Wac Arts and this Easter Holiday was no exception. Over the course of the two week break we have had an exciting array of holiday projects taking place and the building was positively overflowing with creativity and energy.
First up was VIDEORAMA! This was a new project involving an exciting fusion of street dance, drama and video with the opportunity to create a music video. The young people were allowed to decide what role they wanted to take, from director, performer, choreographer or story boarder. They also got to edit the videos themselves giving an excellent taster of what it is like to work in the music industry. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and it seems that everyone had a fantastic time. We can’t wait to see the finished products!
The second week saw the launch of Wac Arts Interactive, a new project funded by BBC Children in Need. Based around the theme of ‘What is friendship?’, this initial 3-day project saw the young people using iPads and special software to prepare a performance with sound effects and live animations that explored their individual interpretations of friendship. This was enthusiastically presented to a live audience on the final day of the project and a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all!
Running across both weeks we also had Wonder Wac. Each week focused on a different theme and first up was ‘Eggstravaganza Week’! Taking eggs as a source of inspiration, the young people used drama and dance to depict animals and birds that are born from eggs. They also created beautiful origami birds which have been hung in full flight in our atrium. For week two the focus was on the Caribbean! Working in small groups, they used sounds, songs and music from Cuba to create their own pieces which they then recorded in the studio.
It certainly was a jam-packed Easter holiday but we wouldn’t have it any other way! A big thank you to our young people for their wonderful enthusiasm and dedication. We hope everyone enjoyed their Easter holiday as much as we did!
