Last Friday our Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre students marked the end of the year by sharing the product of a term’s work with an audience of friends, family and tutors at the newly refurbished Phoenix Theatre at The King Alfred School.
The first and second year students presented work from their repertory classes – this included extracts from Liberian Girl, Diana Nneka Atuona’s debut play about a child soldier in Liberia’s civil war and Gone Too Far by Bola Agbaje. They also presented a fantastic contemporary song medley, accompanied by tutor Kevin Mark Trail, and a lively group dance piece from West Side Story, as well as a several commercial jazz numbers.
Our third years presented a number of scenes from Don Nigro’s four short plays, directed by Ben Bennett. The audience was held spellbound as our students, now in the final year of their Diploma, showcased their considerable amount of talent. We’re already looking forward to their March showcases, which will be the final stop before their final show later in the summer. Judging by what we saw last night we’ve no doubt they’ll all be going on to do great things.
